- How did you get involved in acting?
My first experience was in 2007. I started with a little role in a theater piece called Nèg pa ka mò (Blacks men never died). My girlfriend at that time was a professional comedian and she introduced me to this environment.
- How different is it to act in a movie and to act in a theater play? And which one do you prefer?
To my opinion, there is a big difference between both. When you are acting in movies the camera makes you feel different. I mean, it’s not the same kind of relation with yourself and the public. In fact, there is a artificial relation with everything. No need to be true cause you already know that they can cut, choose, change and improve some scenes even if of course you try to give the best of you. In inverse, in a theater play, you can not lie to the public cause it can feel it immediately. You must improve all of your senses. No manner to hide what you are, no mistakes, no way to repeat the scene. There also is a bigger pressure because of the proximity with the public. This is so much deeper to me. So I prefer so far acting in theater and I think that comedian from theater are better in movie.
- What are your weak points when it comes to acting? How do you try to improve them?
I think that my weakness is to find the most subtle expression that the scene asking. So, to improve that I really need to appropriate the text and the context to find the good emotion for the right expression. I’m impressed about comedians who can do it very quickly.
- What are your strong points as an actor?
I think my presence in front of the public. I’m also a dancer and fighter, so I use to have every eyes watching on me. In fact, that gave a better control on my emotions. I really like the confrontation with the public.
- What have you learned from the directors that you have worked with throughout your career?
I learned to listen and to pay attention. This is to me the most important across the relation I could have with them. I like improvisation but I never forget that I am serving the project.
- What makes a good scene partner?
I need to be complice with my partner. Looking at it, having jokes to finally be in confidence with it. The good scene partner is the one who feel what you are waiting for, without need to talk.
- What are some of the difficulties of the acting business?
With no doubts, it’s to live by his art and his passion. Especially when you stay in a small island like mine. There are not enough projects and also no real cultural policy to help the movie business in general.
- What’s challenging about bringing a script to life?
First of all, when I read it, I need to feel the story and the relation between the characters. Secondly, I like the idea that I could bring my vision and my interpretation of my acting. Then, exchanging with the scriptwriter brings every elements to make me closer of the script and improve myself in anyway. If I feel alive in my role i will share that with the story.
- What do you do when you’re not doing theatre/film?
Well, I have another job cause you need to pay your bills. This is the case for most of us in our country. But, I stay in touch with my passion by watching pieces of theater and some movies. Trying to analyze and learn more from the others. I just try to enjoy my life by having activities and having time with my son.
- If someone is going to make your life into a movie, who would play you?
What a question!!! It would be a great honor for me if Denzel Washington accepts it and that will make me so proud.
