Interview with actress Ruby Challenger

  • How did you get involved in acting?

I have always had a passion for being on stage. The thrill of putting everything you have out there, in the open – there’s nothing really like it. In highschool I mainly danced though, rather than acted.  It was a natural choice for me to play my grandmother in “Daily Bread”.

  • How different is it to act in a movie and to act in a theater play? And which one do you prefer?

Movies are much more stop start – stand here, look here, go faster, go slower… theatre has a living breathing mind of its own.

  • What are your weak points when it comes to acting? How do you try to improve them?

I struggle to fully surrender. It is the biggest area I need to work on. I am so busy (subconsciously) trying to retain control (on the inside). My Dramaturg was working very hard to break this down in me.

  • What are your strong points as an actor?

I will always give it everything I have

  • What have you learned from the directors that you have worked with throughout your career?

I am an amateur actor, so I haven’t worked with many directors!

  • What makes a good scene partner?

Someone who is open and listens.

  • What are some of the difficulties of the acting business?

Finding work – my father is a film maker, and strongly discouraged me pursuing the career because your fate is really at the whim of others. This is why I made my own film – so I could act in it!

  • What’s challenging about bringing a script to life?

Working to find the truth of the scene.

  • What do you do when you’re not doing theatre/film?

I am currently writing the script for the feature film based on “Daily Bread”. And in my spare time beyond that – my husband and I are small business owners 😉

  • If someone is going to make your life into a movie, who would play you?

Haha, I’d love Alicia Vikander!
